A trailer that is labeled as “refrigerated” or “reefer” is one that is well-insulated, tightly shut, and has a Trailer Refrigeration Unit (TRU) positioned on the outside of the front wall to regulate the interior temperature.
A reefer trailer’s primary function is to keep the temperature of the cargo warm while it is being loaded. During shipping, it is not utilized to raise or lower the temperature of the freight.
For instance, ice cream is loaded into the TRU frozen, and the TRU maintains that frozenness throughout the journey so that it is still frigid when it reaches its destination.
This method of controlling a trailer’s temperature aids in preserving the quality and extending the shelf life of the cargo being transported
